As Sweden's third-largest city with a population of 360 000, Malmö is home to a youthful

The city has a long history and began to flourish thanks to herring fishing during the 12th and 13th centuries. At that time, Malmö and Skåne province (Scania) belonged to Denmark. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the city developed into an industrial center with the shipyard as the largest workplace, constucted tankers and submarines, and there used to be textile factories and more.

During the last decades Malmö has transformed from an industrial city to a city of knowledge. The university is an example of this shift, and in the business sector. Today Malmö's main sectors are within design, communication, and tech.
